Cirencester's Norman Arch was gifted to the town by Richard Chester-Master
(then a councillor) in 1964 in memory of his late father Col.
William Alfred Chester-Master.
The present Town Council want to sell it to a) raise a capital
receipt and b) dispose of a potential liability.
An outpouring of objection came from local organisations, townspeople,
people who work here and visitors to the town and the sale was
put on hold and a working party set up to look at alternatives.
